The family of a New York City firefighter killed in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 is asking for the return of two medals stolen from his mother's Tampa apartment.
The small gold pins accompanied the 9/11 Heroes Medal of Valor posthumously awarded to Richard Muldowney and other firefighters, police officers and rescuers who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks. Muldowney's widow and two children kept the medal, and his brother and mother kept the pins.
Hillsborough County firefighter Brian Muldowney says his brother's pins are "priceless" to the family. They were stolen March 6.
Two people have been charged in connection with the burglary. Authorities say neither the pins nor other jewelry stolen from the apartment has been recovered.
