Sean Hennessey
Sean Hennessey joined WCBS-TV as a general assignment reporter in March 2007.
Hennessey has covered a number of breaking news stories for CBS 2 including the Virginia Tech shootings, and has traveled to Washington, D.C., for various national stories that have New York ties. He comes to CBS 2 after a ten-year reporting and anchoring career at WHDH-TV in Boston. There, Hennessey covered two Super Bowls, two Olympic Games (Atlanta and Australia), the crash of TWA Flight 800, and the first anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks from ground zero.
Prior to WHDH-TV, Hennessey served as general assignment reporter at WPRI-TV in Providence, R.I. Before that, he worked as a reporter at WSLS-TV in Roanoke, Va., WSOC-TV in Charlotte, N.C., and WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio.
Hennessey began his career at the Boston Globe as a high school sports writer and then went on to work as a sports reporter at the Cape Cod cable station, Cape 11 Alive. Following that, Hennessey worked at a radio station in Leesburg, Va., where he made the transition from sports to news. He then went on to his first television news reporting job at KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa.
Hennessey works hard to serve his community. He served as a volunteer tutor for ten years at Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) where he helped adults in Algebra and Geometry as they tried to earn their GED. In 2002, He received a Community Award for all his efforts in the community. An avid athlete, Hennessey has finished more than a dozen Boston Marathons and has completed two Ironman Triathlons consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile marathon.
Hennessey graduated from Boston College with a bachelor's degree in English and business concentration. He then went on to take post graduate courses at Emerson College, where he made the switch from print to television. In May 2003, Hennessey earned his MBA from Boston College. He and his wife Vivian currently reside in Manhattan.
