Co-Op City Wants Conservation After Morning Outage
Power Restored, 20 Buildings Were Affected
BRONX (CBS) ―
Power has been fully restored to Co-op city in the Bronx, CBS 2 HD has learned.
An estimated fifteen to twenty buildings were originally affected after a power line failed while construction crews worked on the cooperative housing development's generating plant just after 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.
Co-op authorities are asking people to continue to conserve power. A spokesperson told CBS 2 they expect it will take at least 6 hours to repair the problem.
A Fire Department official said several residents were rescued from elevators minutes after power went out.
Considered a "city within a city," Co-op City is the largest cooperative housing development in the world. It is located in the Baychester section of the the Bronx.
