One person was killed and two other injured in downtown Manhattan after an out-of-control car struck a motorcycle, CBS 2 has learned.
The accident happened shortly before 5:30 on Monday evening. Police say a sedan that lost control went over the divider and struck the bike before coming to a stop at the front of the Staten Island Ferry terminal at Whitehall and South streets.
One person who was struck was pronounced dead on the scene and two others injured. One injured victim is said to be in serious condition, the other in critical condition.
A major police investigation is underway that could last several hours into the evening.
It's not yet known if the victims were pedestrians.
Police have shut down both streets while they investigate. As an alternate route, drivers are asked to use the Battery Park underpass.
