Judge Relaxes Strict Guest Rules At Hot 97

WEST VILLAGE (AP) ― Hip Hop Radio Station Hot 97 has been given new rules for having guests. In an apparent compromise to stop an eviction of the radio because of shootings outside the studio -- a judge said Hot 97 can have visitors, but the entourage and posse are forbidden.

The New York City District Council of Carpenters Pension Fund owns the building and wants to evict the radio station, saying it was a safety problem for other tenants.

The fund owns the Greenwich Village building that houses Hot 97 and two sister stations.

Emmis Radio LLC owns all three stations.

A judge says recording artists for Hot 97 must enter alone -- without an entourage or posse. The station must give the landlord four days' notice for those guests and must hire an armed guard to patrol outside the station at least an hour before the guest shows up.

The judge lifted all restrictions on guests for the other two stations.

The station also agreed to install a telephone outside the building so the armed security guard can call police if there is a problem. The guard must be licensed to carry a gun.
