American Airlines Warns Of E-Mail Scam
Don't Click On Links, Give Out Personal Information, Officials Advise
FORT WORTH, Texas (CBS) ―
American Airlines has issued a warning to customers regarding something that might show up in their email.
Some American Airlines customers who participate in the American Airlines AAdvantage® program received an email offering $50 for answering a survey. Click here to see a sample of this email.
On their Website, the airline reminded customers that they would never ask for "security-related changes to your account or send emails to collect user names, passwords, email addresses or other personal information through email or over the phone" after fraudulent email was reported.
Known as "phishing," scammers "fish" for personal information such as credit card or account information, passwords and other personal information.
Officials urge consumer not click on any embedded links, open any attachments or call listed phone numbers if they receive such an email.
American asks customers to forward a copy of the email, including the header to so they can investigate further.
