Teamsters General President Campaigns For Obama
PITTSBURGH (CBS) ―
Teamsters General President Jimmy Hoffa Jr. brought his support for Presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama to Pittsburgh today.
This morning, he talked with workers at a UPS facility and toured a Giant Eagle grocery facility, reports CBS station KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh.
The visits come as part of Hoffa's "Working Class Convoy for Change," which is a group of trucks making its way around the area talking to union members.
Hoffa said he was sold on Sen. Obama when he heard his stance on NAFTA and jobs.
"We've got to have someone who is going to stand up to these big, international companies, and say, 'We've got to have something that's fair for the workers. It's not about money, but about the people who live in Pennsylvania. We are about change,'" said Hoffa.
"If anybody is happy for the last eight years, they should vote for somebody else. But I don't think we're happy. We see what's going on in this great state of Pennsylvania. It's time for change. Let's put Obama in."
But not all workers say they have made up their mind yet.
"It's up in the air for me, 50-50," said Jim Jowers, a UPS driver. "They didn't present anything that caught my eye yet. I think they are all going through the motions right now. I'd like to see them say something about fuel, you know, the cost of fuel."
Sen. Obama's rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, will also campaign in Pittsburgh today.
