What Kind Of First Lady Will Michelle Obama Be?

NEW YORK (CBS) ― On the campaign trail, Michelle Obama caused controversy with her "proud of America" comment, then sparked a fashion craze with her off-the-rack outfits.

So what kind of First Lady will the Ivy League-educated, corporate lawyer, mother of two children be?

"I think she's fabulous, fashionable. I think she'll be perfect and an inspiration to everyone," said Hells Kitchen resident Alison Sky.

Said Bronx resident Adolph Fulton: "I think she'll be a great First Lady. She's educated, she knows what going on, she's down to Earth."

Mrs. Obama's beauty and style has prompted comparisons to Jackie Kennedy; her education and professional background similar to Sen. Hillary Clinton's; and her "children first" attitude reminiscent of Laura Bush.

"I think she'll be a First Lady in the vein of Eleanor Roosevelt," said Sonia Ossorio, President of the National Organization for Women, New York City. "She's clearly strong and opinionated and I think what we're gonna see is someone who is going to let us know how she feels."

But when asked by "Sister 2 Sister" magazine if she will be like her predecessors, Mrs. Obama said: "They've all sort of brought what is unique to them to the office, and I think that will be the truth for me."

Mrs. Obama says her most important job will still be to mother her young daughters, joking she'll be "Mom-In-Chief," but also continue to advise her husband on important matters.

"I care very deeply about national service. I've worked for an academic medical center, I know the challenges in healthcare. I am a mother, and a professional, and a wife, and I know the struggles of balancing work, life, and family," she told CBS News Anchor Katie Couric in a previous interview.

And starting Jan. 20, the country will begin to know Mrs. Obama, First Lady of the United States…elect.
