Obama Raises $36M In January

 Campaign '08 Complete Coverage

 Campaign '08 Delegate Tracker
WASHINGTON (AP) ― Democrat Barack Obama's fundraising and spending report shows he raised $36 million last month and spent more than $30 million, setting himself up as the financial juggernaut in the presidential race.

Overall, the Illinois senator finished the month with $25 million cash on hand, but $7 million is specifically for the general election. The report was filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission.

The overflow of cash made it possible for Obama to spend at the remarkable rate of $1 million a day in January.

He and New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton traded wins and losses in January's presidential contests. But Obama has won 10 straight primaries and caucuses, and he now leads Clinton in the number of delegates needed to win the Democratic presidential nomination.
