Overturned Tractor-Trailer Closes Part Of LIE
Tractor-Trailer Overturns, Burns Near Exit 43, Shuts Down Eastbound Lanes
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
An overturned tractor-trailer closed part of the Long Island Expressway in Syosset early Thursday morning, CBS 2 HD has learned.
Chopper 2 HD was over the scene of the accident near Exit 43 of the LIE, as stand-still traffic extended for miles in the eastbound lanes.
The overturned tractor-trailer caught fire near South Oyster Bay Road.
Debris from the tractor is scattered all over the expressway. Chopper 2 HD's Jim Smith says there will be significant delays as a result of the accident and clean-up.
The LIE was closed in both directions between exits 43 and 44. Two westbound lanes have since been reopened.
The driver managed to escape despite sustaining significant burns. He was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center.
