CBS 2 takes you behind the scenes at a high profile Glamour magazine photo shoot to meet the woman who makes it all happen.
The setting is a super sleek studio in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. Hair and makeup for the models is well underway, and a simple set design has been established. The woman overseeing the look and execution for this upcoming photo spread is Suzanne Donaldson.
"I'm photo director for Glamour magazine, which is an incredibly dynamic and fun job," Donaldson said. "I have been here for four years, and I feel like we just keep upping the bar. We keep having better photographers, and we keep presenting the material in a crispy, fashionable gorgeous way."
Gorgeous on the set that day were the women of "Dancing with the Stars." They are part of a feature for a photo editorial on bodies coming in the May issue.
"To be able to present the material to the public is our biggest challenge," said Donaldson. "How do we do it differently? How do we do it so that my readers are excited? And they're inspired and they look at the pictures and say, 'Oh my gosh, I want to be in that situation.'"
To create the scenario, Donaldson conferred with noted photographer Mark Babtist, who shot the spread.
"It's funny, we're having a little bit of an artistic moment I'm looking at a Polaroid from the shoot and what I'm seeing is that I'm not in love with what we had dead set in our minds," said Donaldson. "We're going to keep trying another situation, and then after get all the film, we see which one we like the best, and we pick the best image."
Several days later, back the art department at Glamour, Donaldson sorts through images from the shoot.
"We've got seven subjects, eight spreads. There are a lot of things that will go into us choosing the pictures. It's about a nice flow with how the outfits are organized. It's about a nice flow with the energy levels in each picture," she said.
Donaldson has shot celebrities, still lifes and everything in between. While each subject carries a particular challenge, they all carry a reward.
"I feel like I am at the zenith of my career. It's really an exciting magazine, and it's just such a beautiful brand, and I'm so proud to be at Glamour magazine doing what I do," said Donaldson.
