The teenager arrested for the murder of a radio reporter reportedly confessed to police on Wednesday.
The story is chilling. The victim, George Weber, put up a fierce struggle as he fought for his life while being stabbed 50 times.
The knife-wielding, self-proclaimed sadomasochist is suspect John Katehis, a 16-year-old who police said confessed to stabbing the New York City veteran radio reporter in a drug-induced rage.
On Sunday, Weber's body was discovered inside his Carroll Garden's home, ankles bound with duct tape and stabbed 50 times. Katehis told police Weber first pulled a knife on him.
"The statement to the effect that the individual had blood on his clothing and he changed into the victim's clean clothing that was owned by the victim," NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
On Friday, police said 47-year-old Weber and Katehis got together at Weber's apartment, after the reporter posted a request for a date on craigslist. That night witnesses said they saw Katehis pacing outside Weber's home, and then on a train with a bloody hand. He was treated at a hospital and released after claiming he cut his hand with a bottle.
Katehis lives in an East Elmhurst, Queens home with his parents. Police said the parents sent Katehis to Middletown to stay with a family friend on Sunday.
The father told investigators exactly where his son would be so they could arrest him.
On Katehis' MySpace page he boasts of being a big risk taker who likes to live life on the edge and: "As long as you show respect for me I will show respect for you. If you disrespect me, then I will ------- break your neck."
On Wednesday afternoon, the suspect's family ran out of their home, avoiding questions. Neighbors said Katehis has a dark personality, but were stunned to hear about his arrest.
"He seemed like a cool kid," Steven Garcia told CBS 2 HD. "He didn't seem like he was into anything bad. He didn't seem to have any trouble, any bad friends, so it's just shocking."
