Police Hunt For Trio In String Of B'klyn Robberies

BROOKLYN (CBS) ― Police are searching for a trio of robbers they say is responsible for at least a half-dozen hold-ups in Brooklyn.

The clerk at Blondie's Deli on Greenwood Avenue showed CBS 2 HD the bat the owner used to chase away the two would-be robbers.

Police released surveillance video of what they believe is the sixth robbery the trio was involved in, with the same M.O. in the past month.

Two young men, according to police, entered the deli in Windsor Terrace, jumped up on the counter and tried to open the cash register. Meanwhile a third suspect waited in a black Ford Expedition. The latest attempted robbery was thwarted however when the owner chased the suspects with a bat and a scuffle ensued. Investigators say one of the suspects returned with a gun but the men ran away without any cash.

In four of the last six robberies, the suspects have gotten away with some amount of money, but their latest attempt was stopped by a boss who refused to be a victim.

"They tried to rob him and they ended up running away," said store clerk Sunny Kumar.

"It's scary. It's frightening to think this is happening here so close to where I live," said customer Patricia Clancy.
