Several Fire Departments Battle Large Blaze; No ConEd Customers Affected

Several fire departments were on the scene of a massive fire at a Con Edison substation in Yonkers on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.

Fire crews battled a large blaze at a Con Edison substation in Yonkers Wednesday morning.
The electrical fire at 142 Kingston Avenue that started just before 6 a.m. prompted a large response from several fire departments in the area.
Emergency services closed a stretch of road from Palmer Road to Midland Avenue, as firefighters battled the massive flames.
Chopper 2 HD was over the scene of the fire most of the morning, where several departments could be seen trying to handle the blaze.
The substation was not occupied by anyone overnight, and there were no reports of injuries as the fire crews made progress fighting the fierce flames. By 8 a.m., the fire had been mostly controlled.
The Westchester Office of Emergency Services responded to the scene.
According to ConEd, no customers had been affected by the fire.
