The Swedish Ice Hockey Association announced that Vancouver Canucks captain Markus Naslund will skip the upcoming Olympics because of a lingering groin injury.
Naslund will be replaced by Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom.
The groin problem forced Naslund to sit out against Colorado on Saturday, but the veteran returned and scored a goal during the Canucks victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday.
Despite returning, he informed Swedish coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson that his groin was still hurting and that he would miss the games.
Naslund leads the Canucks in scoring with 24 goals and 31 assists during the 52 games he has played.
Holmstrom, has netted 18 goals and 17 assists through 53 games with the Red Wings.
