Give Mom A Makeover For Mother's Day

There's nobody more deserving of a little TLC than mom, and with Mother's Day right around the corner, CBS 2's Consumer Reporter Kirstin Cole offers some amazing "mom makeovers," along with some easy tips for all mothers to help look their best on the big day.

After all, who wouldn't love an opportunity to give his or her mother a makeover?

"We all love our moms, but there's always a few things we kind of wish they'd change," says Alyssa Hertzig, Beauty Editor for Good Housekeeping magazine.

Hertzig showed CBS 2 how she helped a few daughters do just that for their very lucky moms, with the help of the Warren-Tricomi Salon in New York City and Laura Geller, a celebrity make-up artist.

Nilma Perez's daughter said her mom had zero time for a beauty routine.

"Nilma had very, very long hair so we cut about four inches off," says stylist Giselle Gonzalez. "We added lots of layers, which made it look a lot more beautiful and it just felt so much lighter. You could just tell immediately she felt great with that hair cut."

Perez says she can even feel the difference afterward.

"I love the fact that my hair looks and feels light. I could actually go all day like this," she says.

Another healthy hair tip for mom: use an intense conditioning treatment for a few minutes a week to help dry dull hair soften and shine.

Donna Bernesser's daughter thought the dark circles under her mom's eyes were bringing her down.

"So Laura Geller used this fantastic concealer. It's called 'Creaseless Concealer' and that took years off right there, which was great," says Hertzig. "Then we enhanced her eyes with a very thin line of brown liquid liner. One that we really like is 'Physicians Formula' felt-tipped eye marker, and it's got this kind of little marker end so you can get a really fine tip and go as subtle or dramatic as you want."

Bernesser was thrilled.

"I loved it. It was like the best gift," she admits.

And if mom's busy schedule keeps her too busy to re-apply makeup during the day, experts suggest a gift of Spackle Under Makeup primer from Laura Geller.

"You put it on before your makeup and it helps form a barrier between your makeup, and you skin and lasts hours and hours longer," says Hertzig.

One last tip for moms in their 40s or 50s: you might want to try a bright lipstick as skin tone loses color with age, and a subtle lipstick color can give you a washed-out look.
