Your 2 Cents: Coupon Codes Key For Online Shoppers

If You Know Where To Look, Discounts Are To Be Found

by Kirstin Cole
NEW YORK (CBS) ― Twenty-five percent off.
Free shipping.
Buy one get one free.

These are just the kinds of breaks online shoppers search for. But just because you don't see a discount, doesn't mean there isn't one for you.

Consumer expert Edgar Dworsky says, "If you see when you are about to check out it says enter promotional code if any -- that gives you a tip off."

Most people have seen that blank space asking for special code or coupon. One woman quipped, "Usually I ignore it unless I know I have something on hand." Another joined in, "I almost never have a coupon so I just ignore it."

But here's the secret. Anyone can get those codes -- if they know where to look.

Dworsky reminds, "There are sights that specialize in listing out all the codes that are available."

Consumer expert Edgar Dworsky showed us how it works by going to Target.Com to buy a couch. Edgar places the order -- and at checkout that promotional box is just waiting. Do you have a promotional code?

He goes to google and types in "promotional code" and "target-dot-com."

Tons of sites popped up with target codes. The best one we found --10 percent off the order.

Edgar enters the code in the box -- and voila.

Dworsky shows us, "You see you have $76 off the order."

Another way to hunt for codes is to go on Web sites like couponcabin.com or currentcodes.com. They list hundreds of companies and what their promotions are. And when we tell our two consumers we found earlier, they both agreed,

"I think that's a pretty good deal," one said.

"If it was easy, I would use it -- that's news to me," added the other.
