CBS 2 HD Is Your Holiday Makeup Station
Get A Jump-Start On That New Look For 2009 And, More Importantly, Save Some Money In The Process
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
To get a fresh and festive look for the holidays all you have to do is check your makeup bag. CBS 2 HD has some new ways to put a spin on some old favorites to achieve a modern look -- and without spending a pretty penny.
This season, less is more
even when it comes to beauty.
"People are using lighter colors and lighter makeup applications," said Elaine D'Farley of Self Magazine.
The best part about this new look is it won't put you in the red. D'Farley says all you have to do is dig through your beauty arsenal.
"The easiest thing is to use stuff that you already have in your bag, but use it in a new way," D'Farley said.
Or add an inexpensive goody or two along the way. First, for flawless, glowing skin, D'Farley suggests starting with this season's newest and cheapest hit -- a makeup primer.
"It's really something that's going to kind of fill in your pores and it's going to create this gorgeous kind of smooth skin texture," D'Farley said.
It absorbs like a lotion, but leaves a little shine. Then, top it off by giving your cheeks a rosy glow. You can even use a lip gloss.
"It makes my cheeks stand out and my cheek bones stand out," makeup tester Charlotte Cameron said.
As for your eyes, 2009's biggest look is the opposite of last year's smoky -- heavy lids. This New Year, D'Farley suggests starting with a light bronze shadow.
"And you create a backdrop for a chocolate brown, dramatic eye liner and then you do gorgeous lashes," D'Farley said.
For a pretty pout, abandon shades of red
and think pink. D'Farley says first line your lips and then apply a little lip balm and swipe with a pink lipstick.
"It's bright and punchy," makeup tester Lesley Estep said. "I think it's a color that so many people can wear, so I feel confident."
Most importantly, experts say 2009's look should make your skin look healthy and keep your makeup routine simple and stress free.
