Home Remedies To Keep Skin Glowing And Fabulous

NEW YORK (CBS) ― For every flawless cheek you see in a magazine ad, there's an army of makeup experts working behind the scenes to achieve it.

For everyone else, there are some tricks that can be done at home to help skin realize its own rosy glow.

No pores, no lines, no blemishes, and no miracles. Instead, there are inexpensive and accessible products that can at least help on the way to supermodel-fabulous skin.

"The tricks that the facialists, dermatologists, and makeup artists rely on to get the model's skin looking so flawless are actually tricks you can do at home," Victoria Kirby, beauty editor of Allure, said.

"I use a bar of soap and cocoa butter," New Yorker Yolanda Bacote said.

Cocoa butter is recommended by the Allure beauty editors, who suggest Palmers for a great summer glow.

For additional sheen, a lot of makeup artists use baby oil, which gives a nice reflection. A great tip to use at home is to use baby oil gel, which will sink in better and will still give wearers that great sheen.

"Healthy diet, exercise [and] a bit of sun," are all crucial to keeping skin looking good, Fredricka Arendon said while visiting from London.

If too much sun results in spots, Kirby recommends dabbing on Derma Blend for opaque, melt-proof coverage.

She also recommends a touch of Laura Mercier Concealer for spots or blemishes on the face.

"I'm really bad," Tracy Niland, of Connecticut, said. "I don't wear any kind of anything. I've got wrinkles."

There are also some important tips to note for wrinkles around the mouth and dry lips.

To get smooth lips and reduce the appearance of lines around the mouth, use an exfoliant like Smashbox Lip Exfoliant.

Massage a small amount onto your lips, gently wipe with a damp cloth, and smooth on a rich balm for soft, supple lips.

Another professional trick is to go light on face powder, and instead opt for blotting paper to tackle too much shine.

A wash cloth soaked in ice water can be effective in reducing puffiness.

Fabulous skin is within every woman's grasp, and all it takes is a couple of good products and ideas to get skin looking glowing and fresh.

For one more trick, try massaging your cheeks, temples and forehead. It's a great way to get the blood flowing, and relieve a little stress too.
