What's The Latest In Household Appliances?

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The Housewares Show in Midtown is rolling out 150 new household products that are promised to save you money and make life at home easier.

The Soda Stream makes soda out of tap water in seconds. Push a button and the water is carbonated. Add flavor and you have your fountain drink, which not only costs a fraction of the store bought kind, but is easy on the environment.

"All those bottles and cans being thrown away, you don't have to do that at all. It's a totally self-containing system so its great for the environment," said Soda Stream spokesman Gerard Meyer.

Green is a theme that runs through the show, from kitchenware made from sustainable cork to natural cellulose scrubbers and sponges designed to keep bacteria off your counter.

Also there's an emphasis on the functional, with mold-fighting smart humidifers that blow cool or warm mist.

And how about a sharp-looking battery powered vacuum cleaner, perfect for a cramped New York apartment.

"Most people in New York don't have a lot of space. This cleans as well as an upright but doesn't take up a lot of space and had the same amount of power," said Nicole Sinclair of TTI Floor Care.

All of the items will be on your store shelves in plenty of time for spring cleaning.
