CBS 2 HD Has Your Lipsticks That Last
Top 3 Products Determined By Good Housekeeping Testers
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The cosmetics industry is always coming up with new and improved products, with lipstick being the latest to promise to last a whole day after just one application. Even after eating.
So how well does it work? Our CBS 2 HD has the results of a test to see how well they do the job. You've seen the commercials. But how long do these new long lasting lip-wears really outlast the rest?
"We tested both one-step and two-step long-lasting lip colors," said Nicole Larsen, chemist at The Good Housekeeping Research Institute.
A group of volunteers put them to some very scientific tests.
"Once the panelists applied the lip color they ate a buttered bagel, drank a hot drink, and, for skin transfer testing, kissed the back of their hands," said Larsen.
Then they evaluated their lips throughout the day, noting how some of the lip colors faded after two hours, while some lasted through dinner to bedtime and into the next day.
"After our tests, we expected there to be some color change, but our top three winners actually had zero color fade and that was really impressive to us," explained Alyssa Hertzig, beauty editor for Good Housekeeping.
The cream of the crop?
Chanel Rouge Ultra Wear Lip Color stuck with most testers for 11 hours.
"I was always afraid to wear long-lasting lip color because I thought it would dry out my lips, but I was really surprised that the Chanel lip color didn't do that," said tester Lauren Gerken.
Volunteers also couldn't stop flapping their lips about L'Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lipcolour.
"Once the top coat is on it feels really soft and smooth for rest of the day," said another tester of the L'Oreal product.
Up next on the luscious lip list was the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Duo.
"I really enjoyed the gloss a lot. It wasn't very sticky, and it looked really nice on my lips," said tester, Johanna Hessling.
Now the products that held up the longest, involved two-step lip colors. And we should point out the more expensive the cosmetic line did not equal quality. You can purchase the three winners at drug and department stores.
