Couples Waiting Longer To Marry Due To Bad Economy
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS) ―
If you're invited to a wedding this summer, don't plan on an open bar or caviar. May local brides are cutting back because of tough economic times.
Nissa Goldberg says the economy is taking a toll on the wedding she always dreamed of.
"The price of gas right now, that's where my money is going!" says Nissa Goldberg. "I've had to cut down my guest list."
The fall bride will also hire a D.J instead of a band and scale back on the honeymoon.
"I'm still working out what's the most cost effective way to do that," she explains.
But she's not giving up her wedding planner who provides a service that budget brides tend to skip.
"I think people view that as a luxury," Nissa says.
That's probably why Laurie Schmalzel isn't booked solid this wedding season. And she's not the only one.
"Many people will call me and say I have to scale back, only a few us are having our makeup done versus five or six I was told up front," says Laurie.
From the artists, to the decorators, they're being more selective.
But if your heart is set on an ice sculpture, or over-the-top flowers, many vendors say couples find a way to make it happen. Even if they have to wait a while, to save up the money.
"They're planning a year and a half out, rather than nine months," says Laurie.
