CBS 2's Hot Spring & Summer Shoe Guide For Women
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
In the world of spring and summer shoes for women, there are several big trends to be excited about this year. But if you need a little help with your sole searching, CBS 2's Consumer Reporter Kirstin has come to the rescue with her spring style shoe guide.
"This is just one season of shoes, just one," said Elise Loehnen of Lucky Magazine standing in the magazine's massive shoe closet. With hundreds of the latest spring and summer styles to choose from, which should make it into your closet?
"Flats were huge this season on the runways," said Loehnen. But this year, flats are a lot flashier. "The striped ballet flats that Ray is wearing are only $20 from Old Navy. They're practical, they're fashionable, you can wear them to work with dresses."
Next, stand up and get noticed with a wedge. "When you are reaching for flip flops, reach for your wedge, instead because it's dressier and it gets your bare foot off that NYC sidewalk," said Loehnen.
It also gives you height without sacrificing comfort.
"This year we are seeing a lot of natural and organic fibers, lots of rope, raffia," said Loehnen.
Want to show off just a little skin in your spring shoes, there's the ever popular peep toe. "It's a vintage style that comes back again and again, it's flattering, it's beautiful, it's lady-like," said Loehnen.
And this season it's got a shorter heel than its closed toe cousin, the stiletto, which is making a huge comeback.
"Normally when I wear three inch heels, I get this horrible pain," said Jennifer Cordova, who loves to wear high heels, but said they're not always comfortable.
While stars tower in stilettos with ease, the rest of us may end up toppling over, which is why, believe it or not, some women like Cordova are taking a class taught by a Broadway dancer so they can learn to walk tall and pain free. The class, called "Legwork High Heel Fitness," is taught by shoe designer Victor Chu.
"They do this routine every day before they perform so they can work all day in high heels," said Chu.
Chu said women from as far away as Paris are clamoring for his classes.
But if you still can't slay the stiletto, step into the fashion forward sandal: the gladiator. "It's a little bit punky and a little bit tough which is a great counter to some of the season's girly silhouettes," said Loehnan.
The following is a list of the shoes featured in our video, along with their prices and where to get them. You can also find out more about spring and summer fashions at
