While we all want to stay warm this winter, we want to look stylish too.
There are some fashionable options, both for those items where you might want to splurge, and those where instead you'll be looking to save.
Scarves are a must-have weapon against the winter chill, and are just one stylish example of trendy accessories that won't freeze your fashion budget many are available at $30 or less.
"Splurge on the classic items that you can wear from season to season, and that you can build your wardrobe around," fashion expert Dawn Yanek said. "Save on the trends."
That means save on items like of-the-moment, colorful tights, but consider splurging on fashionable boots that can make an outfit.
"You can buy a $10 pair of tights or a $70 pair of tights, and it still might get a run in it eventually," Yanek said.
A perfect example of how you can combine high-end pieces with items that you save on: A basic dark skirt, paired with an inexpensive and colorful blouse, can be transformed into a sophisticated silhouette with the right pair of boots.
"[These boots] are $550 and yes, they are a splurge, but the good news is they will go with a variety of outfits," Yanek said. "They go from daytime to nighttime, and even if you gain five pounds, you're still going to feel like a million bucks in them because they're still going to fit you."
For daytime, start with basics like a boyfriend cardigan paired with skinny jeans.
"The big splurge comes in with the coat this is where you want to spend your money and have an investment piece," Yanek said. "This is $625 and from Lamb. What we love about it is [it's] a basic, classic coat with a detachable fur collar. It can take you [past] this season and beyond."
Department stores like Kohl's offer designers' lower-priced lines, like a classic dress from Vera by Vera Wang, available for less than $80. Jewel tone tops are a buy at about $40.
"Our budgets are on a shoe string, but the good news is that you don't have to spend a million bucks to look like a million bucks," Yanek says. "It's all about being really smart about what you splurge on."
