Al Gore says he's "thrilled" that his movie "An Inconvenient Truth" scored two Oscar nominations.
The film on the perils of global warming is up for best documentary feature, and also for best original song for Melissa Etheridge singing "I Need to Wake Up."
Gore said in an e-mail statement that he was "so grateful" to the entire team and "pleased that the Academy has recognized their work." The film has been a critical and box office success, bringing in more than 24 (m) million dollars, making it the third highest-grossing documentary in history. A companion book has been on national best-seller lists for months.
Aides say the former vice president does plan to walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards ceremony next month.
