Fashion Stylist Jessica 1st Off 'Survivor: Fiji'

 Slideshow: Castaways Of Survivor: Fiji

(CBS) "Survivor: Fiji," the 14th installment of the Emmy Award-winning reality series, premiered Thursday on CBS with 19 new castaways competing for the $1 million prize.

The first task of the season required the diverse group to work as one to construct an elaborate shelter complete with a kitchen, bathroom and living quarters.

But a map that lead to a stockpile of supplies had some unnerved. "I've never seen where people come on Survivor have this much," Erica, a 27-year-old fundraiser for non-profit organizations, said. "I'm really nervous, because I think a curve ball is coming. It's too easy."

Sylvia, an architect by trade, took charge of the construction site trying as best she could to keep her fellow Survivors on task. But as day faded to night with only half the shelter complete, the Survivors huddled together for warmth under a small tarp as the first night's rain beat down on them. In the morning, they worked together to finish construction before heading to the Immunity Challenge.

When the Survivors arrived at the challenge location they were greeted by Jeff Probst. Sylvia, charged with leading her tribe through the construction of their shelter, earned the responsibility of splitting the tribe in two. She put Cassandra, Liliana, Stacy, Lisi, Boo, Alex, Gary, Dre and Edgardo into the new green tribe, Moto. Michelle, Erica, Jessica, Rita, Earl, Anthony, Yau-Man, Rocky and Mookie were put into the new orange tribe, Ravu. Sylvia was then told she must spend a night on Exile Island, home to thousands of sea snakes and a clue to the hidden Immunity Idol. In addition, she was not assigned a tribe, instead she would join the tribe that lost a member at Tribal Council the following day.

With the new tribes formed, Moto and Ravu competed in the first Immunity Challenge, which required them to race chariots across the Fijian mud flats and solve three puzzles.

Moto won the challenge and was rewarded with the shelter all 19 Survivors helped to build and a house-warming gift: goblets and cutlery, hammocks, a shower and a nice big couch. For losing, Ravu was sent to a new beach where they had to start from scratch with one pot and one machete. In addition, they were sent to Tribal Council to vote the first person out of the game.

Meanwhile Sylvia came upon a discovery on Exile Island, but it wasn't what she was hoping for. "I've been given the opportunity of a clue, but the clue says, 'sorry, it's back at your camp.' So now I have to figure out a time and place where I can search for it without prying eyes. That's going to be a challenge in itself," she said.

As Ravu prepares for Tribal Council, Rocky, Jessica and Erica pull Earl, the 35 year-old advertising executive from Santa Monica, Calif., into an agreement to vote out Rita as the weakest member. However, Earl also contnsiders Mookie's plot to vote against Jessica based on her lack of performance during the puzzle challenge. "Tribal Council tonight will be interesting," Earl said.

In the end, actions spoke louder than words as Jessica's performance in the challenge became her downfall. She received six votes. With that, Jessica DeBen, the 27-year-old fashion stylist from Los Angeles, became the first person voted out of "Survivor: Fiji.

"I guess if you're going to get back-stabbed it's good to get it done in the beginning when you don't know people that well. I was absolutely shocked," she said.
