They are guys and girls with dreams to dance for the dreamgirl Beyonce Knowles.
Hundreds stood out in the cold for hours and even more lucked out with a wait inside a warm Midtown lobby -- all for a chance of a lifetime.
"I love to dance. And it's Beyonce!" said Siobhan St. John of New Rochelle. "Let's be honest. Once you get an opportunity like that you gotta take it. You don't want to waste it."
The dancers were everywhere, each of them experiencing a moment or two of pause.
"It's too many people, it's crazy!" Johnny Loaiza of Queens said. "I don't know what they're looking for."
Beyonce is crossing the country looking for just 40 dancers to perform in her upcoming world tour. She's already scouted hopefuls in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Houston. On Thursday she hit the Big Apple, where the talent was twisting, turning and defying gravity.
As Minerva Baret said, in this company you must walk the walk.
"And you would think I can walk. Girl, I can walk, uh huh," Baret said. "It's a certain type of walk they're looking for. And within a dancer you can tell whether she got the walk or she don't.
"And you got the walk. Yes girl. I got the walk the head the uh huh."
But dancers like Samuel Chisolm said a winner needs more than just moves.
"Actually, desire," Chisolm corrected. "Passion for this man since I could walk."
That passion wasn't enough to get Gina Minter a call back, but she said she'll be back.
"Keep it movin' -- if you don't succeed try, try again!" Minter said.
