Billy Joel will make "The Last Play at Shea" in a final concert at Shea Stadium on July 16.
The Mets have announced that the Piano Man will perform the night after baseball's All-Star game at Yankee Stadium.
Joel says it's "an honor to help throw Shea the ultimate concert farewell party."
Joel grew up in Levittown, on Long Island. He says he'll always have a place for Shea Stadium in his heart.
In addition to being home of the Mets, Shea Stadium was briefly home to the NFL's New York Jets and Giants. Several prominent acts have headlined at Shea, including The Beatles, who opened their 1965 North American tour to a record audience of 55,600.
A new stadium, Citi Field, is to open for the 2009 season.
