Bon Jovi To Rock Central Park
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
Thousands will get a chance to see Bon Jovi in concert tonight.
The excitement for tonight's free concert is growing. Over 60,000 are expected to grace Central Park's Great Lawn to watch the rock legend in style, and fans have been lining up since early Saturday morning.
"I love Bon Jovi. I've been listening to his music since the '80s. I couldn't wait to get out here today," Demetrios Leomtaris said."
While the stage was being set, warnings went up about what fans attending the show can and cannot bring into the park.
"Fans shouldn't bring chairs, large backpacks or bags, umbrellas, strollers, things of that nature," an official said. Other items that will not be allowed in include cameras, coolers, glass or metal containers and alcohol.
If you want to keep cool on this hop day, you'll have to buy drinks at the park because fans are only allowed to bring in one bottle of water.
"They probably charge you a lot for getting water there," one Bon Jovi fan lamented.
With temperatures near 90 degrees expected, it could be a long, hot day for many, especially if they arrive early to get a good spot. "They should bring plenty of sunscreen because it's going to be warm outside, and water as long as it's in a plastic bottle," the official said.
"With the heat out there like this, and have nothing to drink and you can't move, it would definitely be a little tough," Jordan Jhabvala said.
Vendors who make their living in the park believe they'll have a nice day. "It is good business, everybody coming, a lot of people. It's everything, it's nice, ice cream, water, hot dog, especially in New York," one vendor said.
The concert starts at 8:00 p.m. tonight and the two gates, one at 72nd Street and Central Park West and the other one on 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue opened at 2:00 p.m.
