DiCaprio Buys Eco-Friendly NYC Condo On Hudson
Building Features Indoor 50-Foot Lap Pool, Media Cafe, Fitness Center & Dog Spa
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
Environmentally conscious Leonardo DiCaprio is practicing what he preaches these days. The actor recently added an eco-friendly apartment in New York City to his impressive list of earth-healthy possessions, which already include a hybrid car and a solar paneled home in Los Angeles.
The 33-year-old actor has purchased an apartment in Riverhouse, which overlooks the Hudson River.
The 264-unit condominium glass tower overlooks the river and a park, and boasts low emission paints, a 24-hour fresh filtered air system, a water treatment facility and rotating solar panels.
DiCaprio will seemingly have everything at his fingertips. The David Rockwell-designed high-rise features an indoor 50-foot lap pool, media cafe, fitness center, landscaped terrace -- and dog spa.
The purchase was confirmed on Friday by Christopher Daly, president of Sheldrake Organization, the developer of the Battery Park City complex. Occupancy is slated for this summer.
The building also will house the City Bakery and a branch of the New York Public Library.
DiCaprio has served on the board of directors of the environmental organization Global Green USA.
The three-time Academy Award-nominated actor and his filmmaking partners, Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Petersen, assembled an incredible array of passion and brainpower in their stirring documentary, "The 11th Hour," to teach the world about every thing we need to know about the fate of planet Earth -- how bad things are, and what we can do to reverse the effects of humanity's rapid devastation of this planet.
DiCaprio has also won nominees for "The Aviator" and "Blood Diamond." He is currently filming "Shutter Island," directed by Martin Scorsese.
An e-mail sent to his publicist was not immediately returned.
