Jury Selection Begins For Remy Ma's NYC Trial
NEW YORK (AP) ―
Jury selection has begun for the trial of a Grammy-nominated rapper accused of shooting an acquaintance over missing money.
Remy Ma is accused of shooting a woman twice in the abdomen last July after leaving a Greenwich Village party. Police say the 26-year-old rapper accused the woman of taking $2,000 from her purse.
The defendant, whose real name is Remy Smith, has pleaded not guilty to assault and related charges and is free on $250,000 bail.
She faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
Remy Ma was nominated for a Grammy as part of Terror Squad for the 2004 hit "Lean Back." She has made recordings with Busta Rhymes and Eminem.
