Accused Uma Stalker: I Was Overcome With Affection

Jack Jordan: 'She Was The First Crush I Had In High School'

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The man charged with stalking Oscar-nominated actress Uma Thurman took the stand inside a Manhattan court Friday, and called her his "first crush" among other candid comments detailing his attraction to Thurman and her family.

Jack Jordan, 37, continued to ignore the swarm of reporters outside the courthouse as he strolled in Friday morning, but the unemployed graduate student poured his heart out on the witness stand.

Talking directly to the jury under direct examination, Jordan recalled his long time affection for the actress.

"She was the first crush that I had in high school. I've seen different movies that she's made over the years," he said.

Jordan also told jurors his fondness for Thurman's family didn't stop with Uma. Upon hearing one of her father's radio interviews, Jordan said: "I took an instant liking to him. I liked everything that I heard him say. I felt I had met a kindred spirit."

Jordan said he tried unsuccessfully to get Mr. Thurman involved in his non profit organization, and when he eventually began to express interest in meeting his long time crush, he said Mr. Thurman shut down and grew cold and distant.

"During the time I wrote Dr. Thurman that letter, I saw the movie 'Kill Bill.' I was overcome by a strong feeling of affection for her. It had an esoteric feeling," he said. "I have never had that kind of feeling before in my life."

Jordan looked calm on the stand and sounded articulate. He maintained eye contact with jurors and was almost apologetic for his past "heavy-handed" attempts to meet the actress, though he showed very little emotion.

"This was very uncharacteristic of me. I'm a very private man. I feel humiliated by this process right now," he said. "What was private has been made very public. But that's not the issue here."

Jordan, who was arrested in Oct. 2007, is currently free on $10,000 bail. He is a 1994 graduate of the University of Chicago and a graduate student at Mills College in Oakland, Calif, his attorney said. He now lives in Maryland with his parents.
