This beginner's workshop is great for anyone who is looking for an introduction to using Adobe© Photoshop Elements 6.0, the shorter version of regular Photoshop. Instructions will be given for both Mac and Windows-based platforms. How to use tools such as, color correcting, scaling and formatting for both print and the internet will be covered. Newark Museum Arts Workshop hosts a variety of workshops. These workshops target adult education in the visual arts. The East Meadow Public Library is proudly welcoming two highly regarded teachers and performers of tabla to put on a show for guests on Sunday, November 8, 2009. Achyut and Tejas Tope of Miller Place will be performing the tabla, a popular Indian percussion instrument used in the music of the Indean subcontinent and in Hindustani classical music. A hands-on workshop will follow the performance, and guests will learn to play the tabla under the guidance of Sejal Kukadia the Director of the Taalim School of Indian Music. Come participate in the First Annual PurpleStride Manhattan Walk on Sunday, November 8, 2009! PurpleStride is sponsored by The Manhattan Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and The Pancreas Center at Columbia University Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research. The stride will take place at New York City's scenic Riverside Park, where participants will have the option to walk a one, two, or three mile route. The event is open to families, and will have featured activities that include face painting, animal balloons for children, beverages and light, healthy snacks. The day will also feature speeches by world renowned surgeon and chief, Division of GI/Endocrine Surgery at NY-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center Dr. John Chabot; and Sue Mirza, co-founder of the Muzzi Mirza Pancreatic Cancer Prevention & Genetics Program at The Pancreas Center, and Ralph Cheney, a 4 year pancreatic cancer survivor. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology has just launched "Give Back Sunday", a nonprofit program created to provide community members with diagnostic imaging tests needed, but cannot afford. Zwager-Pesiri acknowledges that in these hard economic times many American's have lost their jobs and no longer have health insurance. In response to these trying times the radiology clinic designed "Give Back Sundays" so one Sunday each month individuals can come in and receive radiological services at no charge. Volunteers including medical professionals, radiologists, nurses, technologists, and receptionists donate their time, and offer their expertise to uninsured Long Island residence for no charge. Since April Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology has provided over 1,800 free diagnostic imaging tests including MRIs, CTs, Digital Mammograms, and

Families are welcome to come identify common species of deciduous trees and learn about why the leaves change color in the fall. If you want to help feed your fellow New Yorkers, then for two consecutive Sunday's, LIM College's SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) team is partnering with City harvest to hold a "Let's Can Hunger" food drive. In addition to collecting donations of non-perishable foods, the team seeks to raise hunger awareness within the community. All donated food will be collected by City Harvest and distributed to community food programs. City harvest helps feed more than 260,000 people in New York City each week. Children between the ages of 3-5 are encouraged to explore the Suffolk County Farm with a Cornell Cooperative Extension educator in order to meet and learn about farm animals. Each day children will be able to take part in fun-filled activities such as a wagon ride, stories, songs, crafts and snacks.  $10 per child and no siblings out of age range please. The Youth education programs are available for children from pre-K to 12th grade and for those with special needs. The farms education programs attracts over 150,000 visitors annually. The Lion Brand Yarn Studio is hosting a charity drive this fall to collect hand made knit scarves and hats for Partnership for the Homeless. The studio will have a live knitter in their window during the month and a half long event, and all products made during this time will be donated to Partnership for the Homeless. The studio is also accepting donations from anyone that would like to support the charity. The Lion Brand Yarn Studio considers philanthropies to be a top priority, which is why they have decided to give back to the homeless community in New York. Partnership for the Homeless is a nonprofit organization that provides help and services to homeless families, seniors and individuals at risk for HIV/AIDS.
