Dining Deals: Abigail Cafe & Wine Bar
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
CBS 2's Tony Tantillo headed out to Brooklyn for this week's dining deal. He checked out a brand new place with comfort food that's already a hit with the neighborhood.
Abigail Cafe and Wine Bar is a new, welcoming spot in Prospect Heights. Just two months old, the neighborhood has taken this friendly place in, and made it part of their landscape.
"I did a lot of research on the area and felt it was a great place to be," said owner and seasoned restaurateur Abbey Hitchcock.
This is her second location, built with a specific vibe in mind.
"I'm not trying to turn the tables, I want it to be a cozy comfortable spot," said Hitchcock.
The spot is quaint, but this restaurant is all about the food, which features an array of different styles of cuisine.
The key to Hitchcock's dishes is using ingredients that are seasonal and local with nothing too over the top.
Some of the meals served include fresh sea scallops sautéed with zucchini tomatoes in a white wine cream sauce, hanger steak - a cut loaded with flavor served with buttery fingerling potatoes, chilled tomato soup served with fresh avocado, and their version of macaroni and cheese, called it smoked mac and cheese, which has an extra layer of goodness.
"People think it's complicated, but it's really smoked mozzarella in there," said Hitchcock. Another popular dish features peppers from South Africa, which are brined and finished with goat cheese stuffing and olive oil.
And for desert, chocolate almond bread pudding!
Abigail Cafe is located at 807 Classon Ave., near the Museum of Art and the Botanical Gardens. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.
