Dining Deal: Gramercy Park's Bar Milano

It's a lively place, with classic decor and a great neighborhood feeling.
Bar Milano is open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. for that authentic European experience. But it's in the kitchen where Chef Eric Kleinman really brings his travels through Northern Italy into focus.
"We really wanted to be that place where someone could come in and grab an espresso in the morning or a full dinner later," said Kleinman.
When Tantillo visited the Gramercy Bar restaurant, Kleinman presented a feast of beautiful dishes for the palate.
The feast started with a classic bolognese, prepared with a Bar Milano twist.
"I went all hanger steak, a lot of people use pork, veal and beef. I went with straight hanger steak, no livers or anything else," said Kleinman.
Also on display was a Northen Italy special, flattened chicken.
"We took the bone out and cooked it on the skin side the whole way so the skin gets nice and crispy," said Kleinman.
What most struck Tantillo was Bar Milano's fair prices for such high quality food.
"We keep it simple, we use high quality ingredients and we don't mess with it too much and try not to throw too man things on there that will jack up the price," said Kleinman.
And then there was the exotic twist to Bar Milano:
"What we're doing is taking a veal breast, baking it till it falls apart and then taking sushi and we cook the whole dish. It's served with artichokes and capers for great flavors and textures," said Kleinman.
It's all about Dining Deals, says Tantillo - the quality, the presentations, the portions. Bar Milano is truly a dining deal.
