Green MoneySaver: Save On Eco-Friendly Products!

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Recent consumer surveys show in this economy, many Americans are now hesitant to buy planet-friendly products because they cost more. But there are ways to save green on eco-friendly products.

Pam Hudson likes to fill her fridge with organic foods, but says her choices are not always healthy for her bottom line.

"Sometimes it's cost prohibitive. Times are tough right now," she says.

So now, before Hudson hits the supermarket, she hits her computer. At sites like GoGreenDeals.com, PristinePlanet.com, and Ecobunga.com, you can find the latest in eco-friendly coupons. Some you can print and take with you, others are codes you can use online.

"Some of them are 50-cents, $1.00, even more. And because they're constantly refreshed, I get to try new products all the time," says Hudson.

And it's not just grocery stores. Shoppers who surf these sites can save a bundle on a slew of products and services.

"What they will see is a range of sales offerings, anything from free shipping to 10 percent off to 60 percent off," says Laura Meyer, CEO of The Ultimate Green Store.

And that's on everything from grocery store staples to eco-friendly clothing to cleaning supplies.

"We look for products that conserve water, save energy, that support organic farming," says Karen Schiff of Ecobunga.com

Many of the sites also send e-mail alerts about sale items.

"We will send the deals on a daily basis or weekly. It's delivered right to their inbox so that they have a pulse on what's going on with the site," says Malcolm Newsome of GoGreenDeals.com

The sites we spoke with say they check every offer and follow the guidelines of groups like "Green America" and the Natural Resources Defense Council to make sure these products meet their eco-friendly claims.

To make sure what you're buying is really "green," consumer advocates say you should read product labels carefully.
