Virtual Walk Benefits Women Fighting Breast Cancer
PITTSBURGH (CBS) ―
There's a new tool to help women who are fighting breast cancer. It's a virtual walk launched by the Gal to Gal Foundation.
The goal is to raise money specifically for women with Stage 4 breast cancer.
For 7-year-old Mara Shapiro in Pittsburgh, whose mother Dorit is battling the deadly disease, the virtual walk is an opportunity to help. "It makes me feel happy, because I'm walking with my mommy," she told CBS Station KDKA-TV.
It costs just $3 to join the virtual walk. Users can design their own virtual character to join the walk, which aims to cross the U.S.
The foundation uses the money to grant wishes to women who are battling the disease.
So far they've granted wishes to about 50 women. The wishes have included everything from family trips to paying off the women's medical bills.
The virtual walk runs through the end of the month.
