Serial Groper Terrorizing Manhattan's East Side

Suspect, Said To Be In His 30s Or 40s, Caught On Surveillance Video After Attacking 3 Women In 2 Hours

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The search was on for a sexual assault suspect who's following women. The NYPD said he's gone on a feeling frenzy, groping women at night on Manhattan's East Side.

The disgusting demeanor has touched women in their mid 20s.

"I think it's really unfortunate that it's going on in this community, especially this area where you wouldn't think it would happen in. Scary, too," East Side resident Liz Werber said.

The suspect hit three areas all on the same night, first groping a woman inside a drug store. Then, less than an hour later a second woman was attacked at an intersection five blocks away. He then traveled 20 blocks and an hour after that groped his final victim right at an intersection.

Surveillance cameras at a Rite Aid gave police a look at their man, and women something to worry about.

"It's scary," East Side resident Christine Reyes said. "I have a 6-year-old daughter. Can you imagine some man comes up from behind and grabs you? Scary."

"It's a nice neighborhood so you figure this wouldn't happen here but you never know," resident Maribel Pini said. "[I'm] very surprised, very surprised."

The suspect is described as a male in his 30s or 40s, about 5-foot-10, 200 to 240 pounds with long black hair.

Women are taking precautions.

"Keep yourself with people, not to walk around alone I'd say," one resident said.

"I try not to walk alone from work or anywhere at all, but I've never had a problem in this neighborhood. But there are people scary everywhere so you always have to be careful, especially as a girl," Sahar Malekzandi said.

The warning to women has been sounded.
