Palin Dinner Brings In $63,500 For Charity

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CBS) ― A chance to have dinner with former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has swelled the coffers of an organization that aids wounded veterans.

The top bid for dinner with Palin, the former Alaska governor, was $63,500. The auction ended Friday afternoon.

There was no immediate word on who the top bidder was.

Organizers say the winner will have to foot the travel bill to meet up with Palin, likely in Alaska.

The ex-Republican vice presidential candidate was offering the dinner as part of a charity auction on eBay for the Ride 2 Recovery program, which supports wounded veterans through cycling programs.

All told, more than $95,000 was raised.

Palin made note of the auction on her Facebook page and encouraged her followers to place a bid. "Todd and I are so happy to help such a worthy organization," Palin wrote in a note on the site.

The Ride 2 Recovery Web site described the dinner with Palin as "an experience of a lifetime."

There were nine other celebrity items in the auction, including lunch with former Bush aide Karl Rove.

By comparison, $2.1 million was paid in 2008 for a lunch with financial guru Warren Buffett.
