HealthWatch: The Simple Lift

NEW YORK (CBS) ― While our economy could certainly use a facelift, many Americans are opting to hold off on going under the knife. But there are some less expensive options to consider. "The Simple Lift" is one of them.

Cena Santana, 65, wanted to look young again without breaking the bank. "All my skin was hanging in here and I look in the mirror and I feel so old," she said.

So she chose "The Simple Lift," the creation of surgeon Dr. Roberto Palma.

"It's a facelift but a very simple facelift. It's not as aggressive as a traditional facelift in terms of how much cutting we do. There is some cutting involved but it's very limited cutting," Dr. Palma explained.

"The Simple Lift" is a mini facelift that focuses on the lower half of the face with less cutting, less bruising and a quicker recovery.

"The skin gets tightened in the neck and in the cheeks all of them get tightening of the muscles of the face back here the back of the neck and the cheek right here," said Dr. Palma.

When Katherine Orecchio was considering this less invasive procedure, so was her husband Michael. He wanted do something about his sagging skin, the result of a successful gastric bypass surgery and the loss of almost 270 pounds.

"I just wanted the lower part because that's where most of my aging had happened," Katherine said.

"It's tighter, it's cleaner, especially when I wear an open shirt. I don't feel like I have a turkey goblet," Michael said.

This option was an easy choice for Katherine who had hoped to tighten her neck and diminish fine lines.

"Now I look at it and go: 'Hmmm, that's kind of nice," she said.

Dr. Palma said "The Simple Lift" was created because of customers demanding less expensive procedures.

"It gives people what they want for something they can fit into their budget," he said. "After 45, almost all women would benefit from it."

The procedure is done under light sedation. Results are considered permanent, although as we age, skin will continue to fall, so a touch-up years later may be necessary to maintain the same look.
