The holidays in New York City bring an influx of shoppers and visitors and with them comes increased congestion and gridlock.
The city Transportation Department on Thursday listed nine days between Friday and Dec. 23 as gridlock alert days. It advised residents and visitors to use mass transit throughout the holiday season and especially on the nine gridlock days.
The days are: Nov. 20 and 25 and Dec. 2, 4, 11, 16, 17, 18 and 23.
The DOT also will place an embargo on all non-emergency construction in the city on certain days during the holidays.
