Merced Perez-Hall Says His Father Is A Bonafide Hero

NEW YORK (CBS) ― In a CBS 2 exclusive, the Chappaqua man accused of murdering his wife is getting support from one of his children. Merced Perez-Hall is calling his dad a hero and blasting police even as new evidence surfaces again, creating more substantial reason for doubt.

 Most of what's inside the rented Chappaqua home is stacked and packed. Perez-Hall told CBS 2 everything will be sold to pay his father's legal bills as he awaits trial for the murder of his mother. For him, it's a fight for truth.

 "What I know in my heart is that there's no way my father could have done this," Hall told CBS 2.

 The DA says Perez-Olivo killed his wife and then shot himself as part of a concocted story of an armed intruder jumping into the back seat. Now CBS 2 has discovered with new information about the state's case.

 According to CBS 2 sources, the DA has a witness who saw a gun that looked very much like the murder weapon inside the Chappaqua house prior to the killing. It's one of the factors that has turned Carlos Perez-Olivo from suspect to defendant.

 "We know about it and we have no comment. I can tell you there was no weapon in this house. Carlos loathes weapons and we will deal with it at trial," said Defense Attorney Robert Buckley.
"I had a lot of toy guns growing up that looked like real guns. I had a pellet gun in particular that looked exactly like a real pistol. You couldn't hurt a fly with I think. It wasn't a real gun," said Hall.

 He believes the police and the DA are simply going for the easy target in a complicated murder case. "Talk to anyone who's ever known him, or been a friend of him or been around him and you know that he's not a killer."

 Perez-Olivo remains in jail on a $1 million dollars bail awaiting a trial that could be a year away.
