Komen for the Cure® (Komen Greater NYC). Join Maurice DuBois and the women of CBS 2 HD: Anchors Dana Tyler, Kristine Johnson, Cindy Hsu and Kate Sullivan, Traffic Reporter Katie McGee and Medical Reporter Dr. Holly Phillips, and work together to get one step closer to fulfilling the promise of finding the cures.
Join CBS 2 HD and run breast cancer out of town in the five kilometer walk/run that will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Central Park West and 77th Street, New York City.
The Komen New York City Race for the Cure is the signature fundraiser of the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Founded in 1990 by friends of television journalist Benita Feurey, Komen Greater New York City has raised over $40 million to date. Komen Greater New York City invests the majority of funds it raises right here in the metropolitan area: 75 percent of the net income is distributed to local programs in the five boroughs of New York City, on Long Island, and in Westchester and Rockland Counties.
Nancy Brinker's promise to her sister became Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization that has invested over $1 billion in hopes of finding the cures to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. What started as a single local race with 800 participants in 1983 has become an international series of 120 races with more than 1.3 million participants. A promise between two sisters launched a global campaign that has become the single largest source of private nonprofit funds dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage. Susan G. Komen for the Cure has played a crucial role in many major advances in breast cancer research. That promise has also created the largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.
