1. Wings: Make skinless chicken cutlets with a low fat, low sodium sauce.
2. Chili: Try a vegetarian recipe for chili that is low fat and uses low fat cheese.
3. Dip: Make a fresh yogurt based dip using low sodium seasonings and fresh garlic.
4. Chips: Choose healthier baked potato chips over fried chips.
5. Make "mock"-tails instead of cocktails: Try to avoid alcohol and try virgin cocktails.
6. Limit alcohol: American Heart Association recommends no more than 1 drink per day for women and no more than 2 for men in order to be heart healthy. If you choose to drinktry light beer, light beer with seltzer and a twist of lime, red wine or red wine with seltzer and fruit to make a sangria type drink, also try mixing in pomegranate juice.
Skinless Chicken Bites with Tangy Yogurt and Fresh Herb Dip:
24 1oz chicken tenders (can be cut from skinless chicken cutlet)
¼ cup bottled cayenne pepper sauce
2 teaspoons cider vinegar
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ tsp ground ginger
MOCKTAIL AND LOW ALCOHOL DRINK RECIPES
Beer Shandy:
Mix equal parts beer and diet lemon/lime soda. Serve tall with citrus wedge
Pomegranate Sangria:
Mix equal parts red wine, pomegranate juice and orange flavored seltzer water. Cut up apples and oranges and serve mix in pitcher over ice.
No Russian:
Two parts cranberry juice to one part tonic water. Serve with squeezed lime over ice
Virgin Mary:
Try a hot spicy tomato juice with your favorite seasons such as horseradish and Worchester sauce. Serve with celery stalk.
Light beer now comes in very low calorie versions. The lower the calories the lower the alcohol
Remember to drink plenty of water as alcohol dehydrates the body. So limit you consumption to two drinks for a man and one for a woman.
Three bean chili served with baked blue corn tortilla chips:
3 Tablespoons of olive oil
1 Jalapeno pepper seeded and chopped
2 green peppers seeded and chopped
1 onion chopped
1 cup diced zucchini
1 cup diced yellow squash
1 19 oz can white kidney beans
1 19 oz can red kidney beans
1 15 oz can black beans
1 14 oz can corn
1 35 oz can crushed tomato
* Cumin to taste
* Pepper to taste
* Salt to taste
5 Splashes of hot sauces
1 Tablespoon of chili powder
* Oregano to taste
2 tablespoons mustard
