Family Members Grieve Losses, Pray For Hurt Pastor

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Brooklyn gospel music singer and Reverend Timothy Wright is in the intensive care unit of a Pennsylvania hospital after he was involved in a deadly car crash.

Monday afternoon, the pastor's family gathered again to ask for prayers.

"He's holding on strong, he's conscious," the injured pastor's son David Wright said. Three days after he collided with fast moving car going the wrong way on I-80, he is unable to talk, but he can make eye contact and nod his head.

The 61-year-old popular gospel singer, who has released more than a dozen gospel albums was critically injured, but his wife, 58-year-old Betty Wright was killed, as was their 14-year-old grandson D.J. Wright.

Danny Wright, D.J.'s father said, "I believe my son is in a better place right now."

D.J.'s parents stood together amid other grieving family members. On Saturday, a memorial service was held for Betty Wright, the co-pastor of the Grace Tabernacle Church in Brooklyn.

Timothy Wright, who is intensive care with multiple fractures, has been given limited information about the deaths.

"He knows his grandson passed, but he is not aware about his wife dying," said David Wright.

The 14-year-old had just graduated from Roosevelt High school last week. He was one of 13 grandchildren in the Wright family.
