Family Of Murdered Brooklyn Teen Call For Justice

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The family and friends of a 19-year-old Brooklyn student who was beaten to death in East Flatbush by a group of ten men are calling for justice.

Darcy Antoine had received a football scholarship to Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh but a decision to take a semester off and come back to New York ended his life.

"I was mad at first, mad at god, why didn't you protect him, he was so good, he never hurt anybody," said Magdalah Alphonse, the victim's cousin.

"Darcy was the life of his mother, because the only reason Darcy was in Brooklyn was because his father had passed away last summer and his mother had a hard time dealing with it."

Antoine was killed just hours before he was to board a flight to Pittsburgh for a Summer job at a youth camp. Family members say the 19-year-old was beaten by a group of thugs last weekend, as he and friends left a nightclub on Utica Avenue.

They say Antoine was trying to defend his friend, who the suspects accused of spilling a drink on them.

"I am the one suffering but to be honest, I want justice," said Antoine's mother, Yolande St. Surin.

"I know some people in the community are aware of what happened, we want them to come forward," added Alphonse.

While family members have been told investigators are looking at a surveillance tape of the attack, police won't confirm that to CBS 2 News.

Antoine's mother, who came to the U.S. from Haiti, says she did everything she could to shelter her son from the violence that plagues the streets - even sending him to private schools:

"Darcy is going to be missed," added cousin Judith Alphonse. "Darcy is going to be an angel watching over us."

Police have been tight-lipped about the investigation, only saying Antoine had no visible signs of trauma

The medical examiner's office has yet to release the results of the autopsy.
