Foxwoods Being Sued Over Employee's Comments

Roulette Worker Insults Women In Spanish

NEW YORK (CBS) ― It was a crap shoot on the part of a roulette worker at Foxwoods Casino, betting that the women at his table couldn't understand the crude comments he was making about them in Spanish. Unfortunately for him they did, and now they've turned the tables on him, hoping to win big.

"It just got more vulgar as the night went on," said Michelle Marigliano. "It was really horrific!"

Marigliano, Lori Francisco, Paula Early and six more of their girlfriends say their weekend at Foxwoods Casino was a bust after they were rudely insulted by a couple of casino workers.

The ladies claim two Hispanic employees working the roulette table were making gross remarks about them in Spanish, clearly assuming none of them understood the language.

But these gambling gals had an ace up their sleeve.

"I'm half Cuban and half Italian, and I have a master's in bi-lingual education. So I'm pretty well spoken, and I understand the language fluently," Marigliano said.

Marigliano understood every bit of "Espanol" being spoken and claims the workers said "look at these dumb broads. They're not going to tip us well."

They say the comments got worse as the night progressed. Margliano said one man said one of her blonde friends thought her breasts were going to get her places.

"It was vulgar and disgusting," added Lori Francisco. "Rude crude comments about each and everyone of us."

They also made comments about the sexual orientation of one of the women who was there.

The women complained to casino managers who responded by giving the group free drinks, breakfast, and two free rooms for a night.

They were also told that one worker was fired.

But the women say that payoff did not make up for the emotional damage they suffered. All nine ladies are suing the casino for $500,000.

"What started out as a great weekend, a great night, ended up being a total downer," Paula Early told CBS 2 HD.

Foxwoods officials would not comment, but in legal papers, the casino claims that because it is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, it is immune to lawsuits in state court, and any legal action must be filed in tribal court.
