Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver who struck a young boy in Jersey City. However, they have made one arrest in connection with this case.
The suspect in custody helped clean the car after the tragedy.
Police mopped up blood on Grand Avenue Tuesday night where a 9-year-old boy was run down and dragged by a speeding hit and run driver.
"He's hurt real bad, hurt real bad," neighbors told CBS 2 HD.
The crime scene suddenly became a summer horror for sidewalks full of apartment dwellers trying to escape the heat.
A playmate saw it all.
"We was playing, and then he hit me in my head and he ran and they said noooo! And he fell over his foot and then the car didn't see him and kept going and dragged him by the corner," said Tawain Ralph.
The child's mother went with him to the hospital. A neighbor who didn't want to be named told CBS 2 HD it doesn't look good.
"The little boy was bleeding from the head," neighbor Deborah said. When asked if the car ever sounded it's horn or hit its brakes, she said, "he didn't stop. He was flying down. He was flying real fast.
"I am angry. This has got to stop. These kids can't play outside."
Police located the vehicle, but are still searching for the driver, who is described as a young man.
CBS 2's Jay Dow also contributed to this report.
