Seniors Banned From Graduation For Laxative Prank

Brooklyn Students Face Criminal Charges After Allegedly Concocting Gift That Sent Teachers To The Hospital

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Instead of doing their homework, three Brooklyn high school seniors will be in court Wednesday night.

Their sickening prank put teachers in the hospital. The students allegedly laced a cake with laxatives and served it to instructors. They now face assault charges.

It looked like a normal cake. It was a vanilla cake with chocolate icing on it.

But Jazzmine Mcki quickly realized the cake made by her classmates at Brooklyn's School of Global Studies in Cypress Hills was anything but normal.

"Me and my friend ate a piece of it and we noticed it tasted really funny and the chocolate was really weird, but we ate it anyway and the teacher ran and said, 'Oh, there's something in the cake,' and I spit it out really quickly after I swallowed a piece and we found out that there was stuff in the cake," Jazzmine said.

The "stuff" was an over-the-counter laxative baked into the cake allegedly by three 17-year-old seniors, including one said to be a straight A cheerleader.

Two teachers who tasted the tainted treat ended up in the hospital, and three others fell ill. One teacher who was hospitalized called the prank cruel and hurtful.

"Disgusting," the teacher said. "What's going on here? Nobody has any morals. I have no idea, no idea at all."

School principal Lisa Gibbs sent out an e-mail to her staff saying: "We are all deeply offended, angry, disappointed and saddened by this turn of events. It's important to remember that not all students would be so devious and harmful."

Many students and staff say they're simply baffled the teens would try to pull off something so terrible just weeks from their graduation.

"I believe in my students," one teacher said. "We have a great school here and it's unfortunate."

One student had a theory as to why the prank was executed.

"It's the end of the year," 10th grader Akeem Alexander said. "Maybe teachers messed with them and they wanted to get back."
