Hudson Valley Couple Recover From Lightning Strike

FISHKILL, N.Y. (AP) ― A Hudson Valley woman remains hospitalized after she and her boyfriend were hit by a bolt of lightning while standing in his driveway.

Kiersten Miller of Beacon is recovering in St. Francis Hospital in the town of Poughkeepsie, where she and Ryan Caviola were taken after the Saturday incident.

Miller and Caviola, both 21, were leaning on his pickup truck in the driveway in Fishkill in Dutchess County when the lightning struck on a warm, sunny day.

Caviola says the strike threw him several feet and left him with injuries to his arms, side and feet. He was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Miller suffered injuries to her feet and right arm and expects to be released soon.
